Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Students
We accept Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Students from the following programs.
These programs are open to applicants residing outside japan.
--- Recruitment for the Embassy Recommendation Program is conducted through the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in your country.
--- Recruitment for the University Recommendation Program is conducted through your university, which has a student exchange agreement with our university.

Japanese Studies students

Qualification A person who is studying at an overseas university, in principle, is major in the field related to Japanese language / Japanese culture, and has enough Japanese language proficiency to receive training.

Teacher Training students Qualification University (college) graduate or Graduate of a school for teacher training who has taught in a school in his / her country for more than 5 years.

Foreign Government Scholarship International Students
Government of the country of residence may offer scholarship program for students to study in Japan and other countries.
Confirm with your university office or government office in charge of education for information on availability and eligibility regarding such scholarships.

Privately-Financed International Students
Privately-financed international students refer to foreign students other than government-sponsored foreign students or foreign government-sponsored students who study at Japanese universities using scholarships from private organizations or by paying their own expenses.

Scholarship Information
The Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan)
This is the operation provided by Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) and the system to support a student who remains to be enrolled in a domestic university (college) and comes to study at a Japanese university for a short period (within 1 year) based on the exchange agreement and others.

Support for International Students

Japanese Supplementary Classes
In addition to ordinary lessons, you can take the Japanese language supplementary class according to your Japanese language capability. Free of expense.

Tutor System
Japanese students perform guidance of learning and research including Japanese language guidance and daily care for international students who have been in Japan for one year or less.

International Student Communication Plaza

This plaza is provided for learning and communication among foreign students. PCs and books related to Japanese language are available.

Within the utilization time (10:00 ~ 17:00), you can freely use them.

Events of university


Interaction with community

・LAMP (Language Acquition and Maintenance Project) : In collaboration with JOETSU INTERNATIONAL NETWORK, we provide study support for JSL children connected to foreign countries.
・We have local people participating in university events such as "International Students Talk / Talk with International Students" and "International gathering in Joetsu University of Education".
・Education for International Understanding Dispatch Project : International students visit mainly elementary, junior high, and high schools in the Joetsu erea to interact and contribute to cross-cultural understanding among children and students.
・International students can also participate in local events such as cherry blossom viewing and folk song performances at summer festivals.
