Japanese Studies students

Qualification A person who is studying at an overseas university, in principle, is major in the field related to Japanese language / Japanese culture, and has enough Japanese language proficiency to receive training.

International Students Sent to Study Abroad by Foreign Governments
They are international students who are sent to other countries for study at the expense of the government of the country, which calls for application, screens candidates, pays scholarships, and conducts all other operations.

International Students at Their Own Expense
They are international students who do not belong in either of the other two categories (International Students at National Expense and International Students Sent to Study Abroad by Foreign Governments). They come to study at Japanese universities with scholarships form private entities or at their own expense.

The Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan)
This is the operation provided by Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) and the system to support a student who remains to be enrolled in a domestic university (college) and comes to study at a Japanese university for a short period (within 1 year) based on the exchange agreement and others.

Support for International Students

Japanese Language Extra Class Program
In addition to ordinary lessons, you can take the Japanese language extra class according to your Japanese language capability. Free of expense.

Tutor System
Japanese students perform guidance of learning and research including Japanese language guidance and daily care for foreign students who have been in Japan for one year or less.

Foreign Student Communication Plaza

This plaza is provided for learning and communication among foreign students. PCs and books related to Japanese language are available.

Within the utilization time (10:00 ~ 17:00), you can freely use them.

Events of university


Interaction with community

In collaboration with Joetsu International Network, exchange meetings are held regularly. The cooking classes of their country dishes and the lecture meeting where their countries are introduced contribute to the international understanding among the people who live in Joetsu area.
Home visit / home stay are conducted.
International students go to elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools in Joetsu area to interact with pupils, students, teachers and parents.

There are other events such as cherry blossom viewing, Minyo-Nagashi and others.
